WHAUP advances Nuclear Energy Innovation Studies Preparing for SMR Technology to Support Future Industries and Thailand’s New S-Curve Economy

Bangkok, Thailand – Executives and team members from the New S-Curve Power Business Development Division of WHA Utilities and Power Public Company Limited (WHAUP) recently visited the Thailand Institute of Nuclear Technology (Public Organization) (TINT) to deepen their understanding of nuclear energy technologies. The visit underscores WHAUP’s commitment to energy innovation and its readiness to explore the development of Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technology to support the growing demand for reliable and clean energy among future industries. The delegation was welcomed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Thawatchai Onchan, President of TINT.

During the visit, WHAUP executives and team members explored nuclear innovation at two key TINT facilities:

  1. TINT Chatuchak Facility

The team studied nuclear fission technology and the operation of a research nuclear reactor, which serves as an important model for the development of carbon-free baseload power generation. The visit also provided insights into nuclear applications across industrial and medical sectors.

  2. TINT Ongkharak Facility

The delegation visited the Tokamak facility to learn about nuclear fusion technology, a cutting-edge innovation that replicates the process by which the sun generates energy. Nuclear fusion is widely regarded as one of the most promising future energy sources due to its potential for delivering clean, safe, and sustainable power in the long term.

Through these initiatives, WHAUP is actively exploring nuclear energy innovations to ensure that any future technology deployment meets the highest standards of safety while delivering long-term economic value. Such technologies could further strengthen the competitiveness of businesses operating within WHA Group’s industrial estates, particularly future industries and data centers that require a stable and reliable 24/7 power supply.

This initiative reflects WHAUP’s commitment to preparing future-ready energy infrastructure to support Thailand’s evolving energy landscape and the upcoming Power Development Plan (PDP). It also aligns with the country’s Net Zero ambitions and sustainable development goals through the exploration and advancement of innovative energy solutions, under WHA Group’s commitment to “WHA: SHAPE THE FUTURE FOR THAILAND.”
