WHAUP Continues to Expand its Solar Energy Business

With the recent signing of a 2.32 MW solar farm project, the company is poised to reach its power-generation target of 670 MW this year

Bangkok - WHA Utilities & Power Public Company Limited (WHAUP) is fully geared up towards solar power investment projects. The company recently won a contract to install a solar farm at Banpong Tapioca Flour Industrial Co., Ltd. (BTF) on a 20-rai plot of land, with a power-generation capacity of 2.32 MW. This project, expected to save BTF 206 million baht in energy costs over a period of 25 years, will be ready for commercial operations by February 2022. Revenue will be recognized starting in the first quarter of 2022. WHAUP is confident to reach its target of 670 MW for electricity-generation capacity, up from 590 megawatts last year, based on WHAUP's shareholding equity.

Dr. Niphon Bundechanan, Chief Executive Officer of WHA Utilities and Power Plc (WHAUP), reveals that the company will continue to focus on business growth inside and outside industrial estates in Thailand and Vietnam, along with the development of innovative solutions for renewable energy, such as solar power generation projects - solar rooftops, solar carparks, floating solar, and solar farms -, as well as constantly providing new utilities to target customers.

The company has set its 2021 target to install solar rooftops for an additional 40 MW, from the current 61 MW already installed. Commercial operations (COD) will start gradually with approximately 22 MW. This will result in WHAUP’s electricity-generation capacity, based on the company’s shareholding equity, to reach 670 MW, up from 590 MW in the previous year.

Lately, the company signed a contract with Banpong Tapioca Flour Industrial Co.,Ltd., a manufacturer of tapioca flour, to install a solar farm on a 20-rai plot of land, representing a power generation capacity of 2.32 MW. The plant is located at Ban Pong district, Ratchaburi province. Commercial operations are expected to begin in February 2022, enabling BTF to save 206 million baht in energy costs over a period of 25 years. For this project, the company will begin recognizing revenue in the first quarter of 2022.
